Our Summer Camps

2010

2010 was our first summer camp, the first of what is currently our foundation's main event. Our themes that year included respect, responsibility, community, cooperation, and generosity and how each is tied to improving the environment.

We were ecstatic to have published poet María Victoria Carreño, come to the camp to discuss poetry that summer, and just as excited to leave 90 fruit trees and flower plants, planted by campers and staff, on the school's grounds.

2012

In our 2012 camp we were happy to have almost doubled the amount of campers in attendance since 2010 (our first camp). This thanks to donations that enabled us to fund more students' participation.

Our focus remained on teaching the campers responsibility for their environment, and some of our key highlights included a visit to the Dominican Botanical Garden to learn about the country's fauna & flora, a neighborhood-cleaning project which we organized with the collaboration of Rey Lachapelle, a local community and youth organizing leader, and we learned to make chocolate from cacao beans, after learning about its agricultural value for the country and its health benefits, under the direction of Dona Yolanda and the expertise of Don Tilo.

STEM Club

2019

We now have our Centers I and II where we are offering a STEAM program. We understand the challenges associated with this program due to the academic deficiencies of the participants, but we embrace the challenge and are making progress. With the goal of narrowing the technological gap, we are interested in offering some technology training/introductions (such as programming languages, robotics, etc.) at our educational center to children seeking knowledge. These programs are being taught with the collaboration of Nathalie Brito, who has organized students from the Instituto Politecnico Loyola (IPL) and university students to teach these programs to our students at our Center I and Center II.

COVID-19

2020

It's worth noting that during the most challenging months of the pandemic (May and June 2020), the foundation coordinated weekly deliveries of breakfast and lunch to all essential agencies in San Cristóbal (Police, AMET, Civil Defense, Red Cross, Firefighters, 911), including the COVID area of the Juan Pablo Pina hospital. A total of 1725 meals were distributed during this time.

Internship Program:

2024

Thanks to the collaboration of Nathalie Brito, in January 2024, we launched an internship program at our foundation. We have two students from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) and three students from the Instituto Politécnico Loyola (IPL).
